Give Thanks

6 months. I can’t believe treatment ended six months ago. It feels strange to still measure my time in relation to cancer. Just over two years since the diagnosis that changed our whole world. Eighteen months since my first surgery. Two months since the second. Eight weeks until my next scan. I’d like to say that it won’t be like this for very long but I have a feeling that isn’t true. But it’s better to measure the time this way than it would be to be counting down the time I have left. Definitely something to be thankful for.

My body is still struggling to find its equilibrium but it’s nothing I can’t handle, nothing in comparison to what I’ve already endured. Another thing to be thankful for.

The kids are growing and learning, playing hockey and basketball, and just enjoying what it feels like to be a kid. I’m so grateful that the last couple years, while difficult, seemed to strengthen them and not take away their joy.

I am most thankful for each day I have with them. I’m thankful for the doctors and medical team that supported me in my fight for these days. I’m thankful for my husband, his strong presence beside me for all of it. I’m thankful for the sunshine and the birds, the smiles and the laughter, the food in my belly and the air in my lungs. And I’m thankful for all of you – your love, your prayers.

Be thankful for each day, even if it’s just something small. A cozy bed, a warm cup of coffee, an easy ride to work, a delicious meal, the smile on your loved one’s face. It isn’t until something threatens to take it all away that you realize just how important those things can be.

Happy Thanksgiving, y’all ❤
