New Haircut, Who Dis?

Geez. It’s been almost two months since my last update. What a slacker I am. To be fair, it’s been two very busy months and I’ve napped a lot (with good reason).

I’m all healed up from my knee surgery in August and physical therapy has been going well. It feels a little bit like I’m trying to teach my leg how to be a leg again which can get a little frustrating. But my strength is coming back and range of motion is improving (although not nearly as quickly as I’d like).

My post-chemo fatigue is still pretty noticeable but I do feel more like myself and less like a cancer patient than I did. My body is trying to figure out how to do its job again now that it’s not being poisoned. My pre-cancer body is very different from my treatment one which feels vastly different from my post-treatment body. I can’t really complain, though. My brows and lashes have returned, my hair is growing (albeit it came in looking like a baby mullet), I can taste more than just spicy foods, and I find myself smiling more. The kids have even remarked that I’m acting more like “the real Mommy.”

Mid-September we returned to Houston for my first post-treatment scan. I also noticed a very small lump on my thigh that I asked them to image. My (hopefully final) surgery was also scheduled for this visit. A reduction on the non-cancerous breast as well as some revisions from the previous surgery were done. I am happy to report that, not only do I look less like a sideshow attraction, my scans were all CLEAR! I went through Hell but I’m hoping that’s where my angiosarcoma is now and that’s where it stays.

My body seems like it might finally be out of “fight” mode which hopefully means I will keep feeling more like myself each day. I look forward to the second chance I’ve fought so hard for these last two years. I even got my first haircut since buzzing everything off two years ago (the baby mullet look wasn’t working for me). I even got myself some new clothes for my favorite season and I’m feeling good!

Thank you for the continued love and prayers!
