Another Battle Won!

Well, I did it! I received my last dose of GemTax this past Wednesday and I’m done!

Six more cycles of chemotherapy: CHECK!

One more battle won!

It still doesn’t quite feel like I’m done and I haven’t really been in much of a celebratory mood. That might have more to do with the fact that I’m still riding out the side effects and waiting to feel good than anything else. But I get a break now! I’m hoping by the time Thanksgiving rolls around, I’ll feel more like myself and maybe food will even start to taste good again. That would be impeccable timing, no?

But, even if food still tastes like ash and my body is still feeling the effects of the medicine, this Thanksgiving will still be exponentially better than last year’s since Caleb and I get to be with our kids. I’m willing to endure a lot to be with them.

We return to Texas in mid-December for scans and appointments. I’m anticipating clear results and good news but I’m not going to let that make me complacent. December is going to be a month of family and fun. We’re going to do all the fun things (maybe even play a little hookey). If there’s one thing I don’t want to forget (and one thing you should all remember too), you never know what the future has in store so treat everything as if it could be the last: your last Christmas, your last winter, your last weekend. Don’t let it get you down; use it as fuel to make whatever it is the best one yet.

I hope y’all have the very best Thanksgiving!
