Ways To Help

Since the beginning, family, friends, and friends of friends have all reached out and asked “How can we help?” Being fiercely independent (sometimes to a fault), it took me some time to accept that I did need the help. It took me even longer to figure out the best ways for others to help my family.

As always, love, thoughts, prayers, good vibes, etc are always helpful. I’ve found that, despite it not being a traditional medicine, positivity really helps me on days when nothing else seems to. Having the love and support of such a big, strong community has really helped me to keep my resolve strong in the face of cancer.

For those that would like to do more, my friends/coworkers created a GoFundMe to help with the financial hardship that comes with cancer and being treated so far from home for a lot of it. https://gofund.me/85157309

For people that would rather support the family more directly, I was encouraged to set up wishlists for both myself and the children. The gifts we’ve received from it have definitely been both a good distraction as well as an unexpected pick-me-up when they arrive. I try my best to keep them updated.

For those local who have asked about meals, it is difficult to always know when I will need the help or when my body prevents me from doing my normal day-to-day things like cooking. Coordinating meals when it happens it too hard for both us and the people that want to make them. We’ve found that gift cards/certificates are a good option for us to have on hand when I can’t get dinner going.

If you’d like to send something like a card or letter directly to myself or the family, please reach out and I can provide you with an address!

The last (but not least important) way you can help is to just keep reading. I love knowing that I am able to connect with you all, even on days when I can barely stay awake! I’ve always wanted to be a writer and you are helping me live the dream, even though I’m needing to fight for my life while I do it. And, if you know someone that is going through a similar situation, a difficult point in life, or could maybe just use a good laugh or a positive thought, please send them here. I created this blog to help me process my cancer diagnosis, share my journey, and hopefully help someone else out there do the same.

Much love to you all! Thank you again for all of your support!
